Weight problems are one of the most common disorders seen in modern day medicine.
Being overweight puts you at a significantly higher risk of developing other more serious
medical conditions. Many of these medical conditions are often best treated by addressing
your weight and the resultant changes in your physiology.
Stigma around weight still exists however in the international medical community it has
been extensively research and it is recognized as a chronic medical condition that should be
treated and managed. Whether you have 5 stubborn kgs to lose (called weight retention) or
30kgs (obesity), they both fall on the spectrum of metabolic dysfunction and the earlier you
start the journey back to a healthy weight, the better.
There are many symptoms that can be associated with weight gain and the resultant change
in your physiology - for example: fatigue, brain fog, flat mood, body aches and pains, poor
sleep, constipation or irritable bowel, abnormal hair growth in unwanted areas in women,
excessive cravings for food, inability to lose weight despite adequate exercise and healthy
eating.
Our aim is to address the underlying causes that have led to your weight gain - this is the
only way to succeed in long term sustainable weight loss. We do this with medication that
will target your individual underlying conditions. Medication is based on your individual
blood results. We will also provide realistic guidelines on eating and exercise.

so that a laboratory form can be prepared for you to take with you to the lab for your blood tests.
Blood tests need to be done as soon as you receive your lab form from Dr Galvin.
An appointment with Dr Galvin can be made once your results have been received.
Your first assessment/consultation is R1500.00 payable strictly on the day of consultation. Follow up consultations
are R880.00 per consultation. Payment is required at the time of your consultation. A receipt will be issued to you for
your consultation which you will be able to submit to your medical aid.
Laboratories are not affiliated to Dr Galvin's practice – in most cases the laboratory will claim from your medical aid or
payment will be requested on the day of service. Cost of blood tests are approximately R2000.00 to R3000.00. Please
allow yourself enough travel time to get to your appointment 15 minutes early to open your file. If you are having a
problem with getting to your appointment on time please let us know telephonically.

From Durban/Pinetown: Take the M13. Take Exit 28 to Hillcrest. Turn right over the M13 and continue through 2 traffic
lights. At the 3rd traffic light turn left into Meyrickton Place. Turn right into Meyrickton Office Park.
From Pietermaritzburg: Travel on N3 toward Durban. Take M13 split off from the
N3. Take the second off ramp to Hillcrest. At stop sign turn right into Shongweni Road. Continue up Shongweni
Road until you get to traffic lights at Old Main Rd. Turn right into Old Main Rd and continue past the Shell Fuel Station and VW on the left.
At the second traffic light after VW turn right into Meyrickton Place. Turn right into Meyrickton Office Park.
